What we are aiming for

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard most commonly referenced in United States accessibility law. It is the bar the build is held to, not a goal for later.

What the site does

Every page begins with a skip link, so one keypress takes you past the navigation. Every page has a single main landmark, headings in order, and a language attribute that changes when you switch between English and Spanish.

Anything you can do with a mouse you can do with a keyboard, and every control shows a clear focus ring. The before-and-after comparison is a real slider: give it focus and use the arrow keys, or Home and End to go straight to either photograph.

The mobile menu closes with Escape and hands focus back to the button that opened it. The estimate form labels every field and announces each step as you move through it.

Every photograph carries a written description. Colour is never the only way information is given. If your device is set to reduce motion, the scrolling introduction becomes a still photograph and the rest of the movement stops.

How we tested it

Every page was checked with axe-core against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rule sets, at desktop and phone widths, in both English and Spanish. At the last review there were no violations.

Keyboard operation was tested by hand: tab order, focus visibility at every stop, the comparison slider, the mobile menu, and the estimate form. Contrast was measured against the brightest pixel behind each piece of text rather than against an assumed background.

Where we fall short

This site has not yet been tested by people who use screen readers every day. Automated checking and careful keyboard testing catch a great deal, but they are not the same as somebody using the site with the software they depend on. If you use a screen reader and something here does not work, we want to know.

The before-and-after photographs are visual by nature. Each carries a written description, but the comparison itself is a visual effect.
